Shireen (Konkona Sensharma) works as a sales girl and her husband stays in Dubai. Whenever he returns back to the country, she is forced to have passionless sex. Leela (Aahana Kumra) is a beautician who is forced to marry after she is madly in love with her boyfriend Arshad (Vikrant Massey) and the duo plans to elope. Rihanna, (Plabita Borthakur) is a student who is forced to wear burkha. 55-year-old bua ji (Ratna Pathak Shah) is a fun loving woman who is not concerned about her age. The rest of Lipstick Under My Burkha is all about what happens in their lives.
Lipstick Under My Burkha is all about the lives of women who secretly try their dreams in this male dominated society. The first half has been sensible, mixed with humour and has a strong social message too. The characters have been well written and well presented on screen. With enough dose of entertainment, Lipstick Under My Burkha first half excels in all the available ways.
Lipstick Under My Burkha even has an interesting second half and is all interesting throughout. The struggles faced by women have been well presented on screen and most of the Indian women will get related to the film for sure. The pre-climax episodes have been decent and the climax looks simple and short. On the whole, the second half of Lipstick Under My Burkha has been decent and thought provoking.
Konkona Sensharma and Ratna Pathak have been exceptional in their roles and they performed with perfection. Plabita Borthakur is sure here to stay and her role will be remembered. Aahana Kumra has been decent but she needs to improve well. All the other actors have been decent in their roles.
The story of Lipstick Under My Burkha has been interesting and the script has been well written. The screenplay and the dialogues look decent and apt. The music and the background score elevated the film well. The cinematography is the major highlight of Lipstick Under My Burkha and the production values looked grand enough. Alankrita Shrivastava has been exceptional with her work and conveyed the message well.
Lipstick Under My Burkha is one of the finest films that have been out in the recent times. However the film will appeal to a limited section of audience.
